It’s fair to say that Colombia has organised a tremendous World Cup, with the words ‘Under-20' placed in brackets after that, because the tournament has been as good as some of FIFA’s top senior competitions. A new attendance record will be set, and we are now in a position to say clearly that Colombia is ready to hold the FIFA World Cup™ one day. They may have to wait until 2026, given that the 2014, 2018 and 2022 events already have a designated host nation, but the U-20 version has certainly been of some consolation to a country that was awarded the 1986 senior tournament, but later had to pull out........It’s difficult to compare youth tournaments because the teams change so much every two years. We’ve seen fewer goals here than in previous events, but that can be explained by the fact that the gap has narrowed between all of the teams taking part. They all prepared for the tournament like professionals and that showed in the tight matches and close results. I’m hopeful that the sides participating in the final matchday on Saturday will attack and put on a great show.
